Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre Donation

The Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre (LMCC), which opened in 2014, is a purpose-built facility with 18 chairs allowing the delivery of chemotherapy and associated care to patients. The centre has two restful and soothing gardens for patients and their families, which have been designed to help improve response to treatment, as well as provide a welcome environment for accompanying family and friends. The centre also features private areas where people can discuss sensitive information about their diagnosis and treatment with clinical and nursing staff.

The Independent Baldock Beer Charitable Trust is pleased to be able to make a donation of £1050, raised from our charity raffle to the LMCC to provide further equipment for use within the centre to enhance care and to support patients and their families.

Donation of £600 to Support the Baldock Community Orchestra

The Baldock Independent Beer Festival donated £600 towards the room hire and provision of sheet music to help the Baldock Community Orchestra.

The Baldock Community Orchestra is a group of local people who enjoy music and who want to be part of an orchestra.  The orchestra is open to all and there is no worrying audition to join, an unusual arrangement for the majority of the orchestras in the area. Therefore it really does reflect the community of Baldock and is designed to encourage community participation in music and playing in local venues. We practise every week at the Knights Templar school and hold concerts in the summer and winter, and anytime in between if we are asked.

Our first rehearsal was on Thursday 10th September 2015, when 18 musicians met for the very first time.  The group is the result of determined recruiting by our musical director and conductor, Rachel Dawson, and a local professional cellist, Catherine Wilmers.  Between them, their drive and enthusiasm for community music rallied our musical members together and off we went!  We grew to 28 members in just 8 weeks, and the orchestra continues to develop.

We have a committee in place to help keep the orchestra growing and accessible to all-comers.
