The Baldock Independent Beer Festival donated £600 towards the room hire and provision of sheet music to help the Baldock Community Orchestra.
The Baldock Community Orchestra is a group of local people who enjoy music and who want to be part of an orchestra. The orchestra is open to all and there is no worrying audition to join, an unusual arrangement for the majority of the orchestras in the area. Therefore it really does reflect the community of Baldock and is designed to encourage community participation in music and playing in local venues. We practise every week at the Knights Templar school and hold concerts in the summer and winter, and anytime in between if we are asked.
Our first rehearsal was on Thursday 10th September 2015, when 18 musicians met for the very first time. The group is the result of determined recruiting by our musical director and conductor, Rachel Dawson, and a local professional cellist, Catherine Wilmers. Between them, their drive and enthusiasm for community music rallied our musical members together and off we went! We grew to 28 members in just 8 weeks, and the orchestra continues to develop.
We have a committee in place to help keep the orchestra growing and accessible to all-comers.
For further information, or if you are interested in joining the orchestra, please contact Bryony Hurley email@example.com
Donation to the 2nd Baldock Scout Group’ to support the purchase of a community asset – a BBQ, gas and supporting equipment; this has been used twice already by the Scouts as they raise money to support their activities and can be hired (from the Scouts; firstname.lastname@example.org) by local organisations to support their charitable and fundraising activities.
Singing Aloud, the choir that performed on Sunday have donated their performance fee to the Garden House Hospice. We doubled it and so were able to gift £200 in total. Here’s a picture of Kate handing over the cheque before going on a massive spending spree at the Garden House Hospice shop!

It’s just under 6 weeks until this year’s festival kicks off on Friday 28th April. We are all working hard to make the 10th Festival the best yet.
So, it will be 10 years since we were challenged to put on a festival and slowly we have grown from that 1st festival where our objective was to have some fun and show we could do it, to now being a fully fledged charity event raising money for local good causes.
Since 2008, we have managed to donate over £34,000 to good causes locally. This has ranged from providing and resources to local schools, helping local charities and sports groups, through to donations to the Garden House Hospice and Lister Hospital.
We look forward to seeing all of you at this years festival. Get there early as the beer is guaranteed to fly off the shelves.
See you there!
