Are you a local good cause looking to raise funds for a particular event or purchase?
The Independent Baldock Beer Festival is a not-for-profit organisation run by a unpaid committee. We put on a family friendly, community focused festival each May Day Bank Holiday weekend at Brandles School, Baldock, because we are passionate about real ale, real cider and in raising a bit of money for local good causes. We are not affiliated to any organisations or businesses in Baldock and any surplus money we make each year goes to both ensuring that we can continue to run a better beer festival each year and in donations to ‘local’ good causes. In the last year we have helped the following organisations:
Baldock Senior Citizens (minibus upkeep)
Cancer Research UK (contribution matching public donations at this year’s festival)
Baldock Town Youth Football Club
Baldock Town Partnership (“Baldock Beast” half marathon and ‘Baldock Day’ children’s entertainment)
Magic Moments pre-school
Brandles School PTA
Hartsfield School PTA
Baldock Town Hall Partnership restoration fund (a community based project to preserve and develop the Town Hall for the use of the people of Baldock).
Our event has grown in popularity and size over the last 6 years with 2013 being another successful year. Since inception we have received and considered, requests from local good causes and have donated sums in varying amounts. We now have a further £5,000 to donate.
We would like to invite tenders from local groups, sports clubs, schools and un-funded charities who both consider themselves a worthy cause and who are looking for additional assistance in relation to specific projects (as opposed to general funding). Please contact us by email (email@example.com) or contact us providing sufficient information for us to consider matters in full i.e. a bit about your organisation, what your specific fund raising activity/project is, its financial parameters, progress to-date, what amount would make a difference and why etc. We will consider the request and see what we can do to help.

We are pleased to announce that we raised £460 from the cuddly toy raffle. Brent was able to hand over a cheque to the Cancer Research shop in Tring last week. A big thank you to all who dug deep to purchase a ticket.
Please note that we are closed today, but if you would still like to volunteer to help us clear up today then you are more than welcome to come down (meet us at 10 am at the school). We would like to thank everyone who came and supported us this year and made it the biggest and the best festival ever. As always a special thanks must go out to all the volunteers. Well the day has arrived. We are open today from 5pm! Beers are all ready. We have a few changes to the beer list (I’ll change the beer list on here asap but nothing major). Remember we will have beer list printed and ready for you so save your paper and pick take one of ours. Ciders are arriving throughout the day and continental beers are all nicely chilled.
Music tonight is tribute themed (Freddie Mecury / Thin Lizzy and ACDC) that kicks off around 6pm.
The Comet published an article about us and just want to clear up a few errors in that. We are not Balstock and we are not raising money exclusively for Mencap. Balstock will be here supporting us by putting on the acoustic stage (and raising money for themselves). Also Mr Speaker will be on the acoustic stage Saturday and they will be raising money for Mencap. Both great causes so dig deep into those pockets and help them raise as much as they can as the acoustic stage is being put on for free! For your enjoyment.

A week to go until the beer festival opens so here’s a reminder of the opening times:
Friday 3rd 5pm – 11pm
Saturday 4th 12pm – 11pm
Sunday 5th 12pm – 8pm
We are not open bank holiday Monday (a few always turn up – you know who you are!) but if you want to help us clear up the site ready for the school to open on Tuesday then come along 🙂
Please remember that there’s lots of events on Saturday and Sunday afternoon to keep the kids occupied, take any rubbish back home with you and note there is no parking whatsoever on site.

Good new! Both foreign beer and real ale lists are now on the website. They’re only basic lists at the moment and we’ll add tasting notes as soon as we erm…. taste them! There is likely to be some changes due to availability at breweries but we will definitely have over 60 different ales this year.
As usual we will be selling collectable glasses (both pint and halves) and for the first time this year we are producing a limited number of festival t shirts so get them while you can.

All bands have now been confirmed so check the band page. London Road Studios are sponsoring the main stage and Balstock and Mr Speaker are running the acoustic stage for us. As always entry is free and the music is loud!
The acts on the acoustic stage are all performing for free to raise money for this years Balstock festival and on Saturday Mr Speaker will be raising money for Mencap so give them support and chuck some money in their tins if you can spare it.
Paul and Gayle were dispatched to the far corners of the home counties to source the best cider they could find. Well they’re back and the list of producers is now on the real cider page.
We will give you a full list of ciders once we can coax Paul out of his apple induced coma!
We had a meeting of the beer festival committee on Monday and things are progressing nicely. Dave has been working hard with a group of us to choose the foreign beers for this years festival and they have all been ordered. We will get a list up on this site as soon as we can.
Food stalls have been booked and will include the usual fare (Indian, West Indian, BBQ) plus ice cream and sweets on Saturday and Sunday for the kids.
Thanks to all bands that have asked if they can play at the festival. We are finalising the bands and will be contacting you as and when we can but unfortunately we will not be able to slot everybody in this year.
Ciders are currently being selected by Paul and Gayle and will be locally produced. We will publish lists as soon as we get them.
We will be selecting ales later in the month so watch this space.
